I have been to many a Waldbaums and Pathmark in Brooklyn, Staten Island and both Nassau and Suffolk counties. Additionally, the employee told me that the staff at the Pathmark on Cropsey have all been guaranteed jobs when Stop n Shop opens there.

Mind you, this is what I have heard from family and friends. The shelf prices rarely match the circular prices, and it seems it is always the shelf price that rings up. Job Opportunities - The stores are are not competitive, have not been maintained and and have been poorly managed.

Photo by Another neighborhood fixture will take a hit as a part of. Will they be missed? Let us know in the comments. This store is the closest grocery store to my house, followed by the Key Food…. When will we get a 24-hour supermarket with fresh produce and a decent deli under the same roof? I forgot about the Key Food at 71st. I doubt the change will affect the other businesses on the lot. Whatever they do, I hope they fix the speedbump that prevents rainwater from going down the drain, causing a huge puddle every time it rains. Also the key food on Bath is needed by the community just as much as 71street one. I never said that I rarely go to Key Food on 71st. I do shop there. I just forgot about it in the context of this discussion. When Waldbaums becomes Key Food, whether they close 71st or Bath, people on side of the community or the other will have an extra half mile to get to the Waldbaums site. Did anyone else notice that Fine Fare on P and McDonald also closed? I am not sure if it is technically Bensonhurst but i use to go there too, i believe they even had parking. We are in this interesting game, people do not want to go to local supermarkets because they are bad, poorly lit, have bad staff and supermarket companies do not want to upgrade and renovate until more people start coming. To be BJs and Costco and obviously Net Cost Market are much better options than anything in the area. There were Trash bins in the middle of some Isles to catch the rain water. I felt like this store was in a different part of town. Hopefully Key food will be successful in this area. You think Chinese people shop at Key Food or Walbaums? They stick to their Chinese Markets with lower quality food and lower prices. My wife and I run into them all the time there. They are the majority shoppers, as far as I can tell. The store on Ralph Avenue in Georgetown is much larger and has a layout like a suburban store. But it is still over priced and the staff is often horrific. A Fairway is going in there and while also expensive the prices are higher due to quality, diversity in products and they are known for paying and treating their staff well. I have been to many a Waldbaums and Pathmark in Brooklyn, Staten Island and both Nassau and Suffolk counties. The stores are are not competitive, have not been maintained and and have been poorly managed. That is why the chain is closing. While I believe Dynasty is independently run, it is also part of the Key Food family of stores. Most of the weekly specials are the same and Dynasty honors the Key Food Shopper card. Dynasty may be somewhat short on aisle space, but the quality, particularly meat and produce, and the cleanliness of the store are top notch. Many years ago, I had planned to check it out. I know they have different owners now, but the place is tainted for me. Since they do have the same specials as Key Food, I get the benefits without reexperiencing that bad taste in my mouth. The issue with Key Food is that they are independently owned sort of like Dunkin Donuts or McDonalds, they are not franchises but they are not run by the same management from the corporate office, there are different owners , so even if two stores say Key Food they can be completely different. I use to live in Bronx NY and we had a Key Food there, it was large, food was super fresh, staff was amazing, pretty much everything you would want in a good supermarket was there. It was so good that it actually purchased two other stores next to it to expand. Key Food on 18th and Cropsey or is it Bath? Dark, gloomy, small, with nasty cashiers. Different owners, different management, different philosophies. I just came from the 18th Ave Waldbaums. The shelves are looking particularly bare. Even the candy and magazine racks at the registers are empty. I asked an employee when they would be closing the store. I learned that the employees were told that Waldbaums would be gone from the location some time next month, but that Key Food had backed out of the deal to take over the store. Additionally, the employee told me that the staff at the Pathmark on Cropsey have all been guaranteed jobs when Stop n Shop opens there. The store shelves were really bare. My wife went to the new Stop N Shop on Cropsey the other day. She said that the only thing different is the name on the store. She actually did encounter a problem with a staffer on the front-end who simply refused to help her use a perfectly valid coupon on the self-checkout. My wife called over another employee, and everything went smoothly. I guess it will take time for the physical environment to change. I went into that 18th Ave Waldbaums back in July as it is a few blocks away from my church. The staff was fine so hopefully Key Food will keep them although the KF where I live is THE most expensive supermarket in our neighborhood. I knew that would happen as I was a front end supervisor and bookkeeper for the Cropsey PM and I used to work with and manage the LAZIEST staff. The best staff were the older folks mostly white who worked the morning shift till 3pm. Although a few friends criticized me I said that that particular store should have fired each and every staff member and rehire from scratch. It is cleaner than Pathmark ever was. The only problem I have encountered there is inconsistent pricing. The shelf prices rarely match the circular prices, and it seems it is always the shelf price that rings up. I have never been to a Fairway. Mind you, this is what I have heard from family and friends. If they do open on New Utrecht, I will compare them before passing final judgement.
